Totals

Recording each pupil's overall score for a test is an encouraged verification step. When pupils submit their own marks question by question, the total you enter here is used to check they've entered their data correctly — the total should match the sum of their question marks. It also acts as a fallback: if a pupil hasn't entered question-level marks, their total still counts. A total entered here overrides the sum of any question marks for that pupil and test.

Entering totals by hand

Choose a class and assessment, then enter each pupil's total in the grid. Leave a cell blank to skip a pupil — blanks are ignored on save. Everything saves together as a single batch.

Importing from a CSV

Switch to the CSV import tab to bring totals in from a spreadsheet, including files that use the legacy layout with several Test N columns — Ampil maps those to the tests in your set. Rows are matched to pupils by student ID, and a preview shows matched, new, off-roster and unreadable rows. Fix any errors, then commit to save in one batch.

Removing totals

If you need to re-enter a test from scratch, use remove totals to clear the totals for that test, then enter them again.

Totals vs question marks

Totals verify and back up pupils' scores, but they don't feed topic-level RAG analysis on their own. For that you need question-level marks — ideally submitted by pupils, or entered and overridden by you on the Enter marks screen.
