Classes and year groups

Set up class sets and the year groups they belong to.

Classes and year groups

Classes (class sets) are where pupils sit and where teachers do their work. Each class belongs to a year group and to a subject, and is assigned a scheme of work.

Creating a class

Choose a subject, then create a class set with its name, year group, test tier and the scheme of work it follows. You can mark a class as off-roll if it holds pupils who are no longer being taught but whose data you want to keep.

Editing a class

Open a class to change its name, tier, scheme assignment or off-roll status. Reassigning the scheme changes which topics the class is reported against.

Year groups

Year groups organise classes and drive the whole-cohort views leaders use. You can create a year group, rename it, and mark it hidden when it shouldn't appear in the usual lists. A year group can only be deleted when no classes are attached to it.

Deleting a class

A class can be deleted when it has no pupils on roll. If a delete is blocked, move or off-roll the pupils first from the Students screen.
