Assign assessments

Create and run an assessment window with the step-by-step checklist.

Assign assessments

An assessment window is a guided cycle that takes a year group from sitting a test through to signed-off grades. This screen lists your windows and their progress, and walks you through each one with a checklist.

The list of windows

Choose a year group to see its assessment windows. Each row shows the window's name, phase, how complete it is, the next sit date and how many classes it covers. From here you can open an existing window or create a new one.

Creating a window

Creating a window sets up a new cycle for the year group. You choose which assessment each class sits and when, then work through the checklist below to gather marks, rank, grade and sign off.

The checklist

Each window has a guided journey. The main steps are:

  1. Set assessment dates — a sit date per class.
  2. Revision lists ready — a prompt to make sure revision is prepared.
  3. Open for feedback — set the deadline for marks to be in.
  4. Class totals — track which classes have their totals in.
  5. Student feedback — track pupils submitting their own marks.
  6. Initial ranking — rank pupils from the chosen assessments.
  7. Teacher rank check — optional per-class check by teachers.
  8. Allocate grades — fit a grade profile over the ranking.
  9. Teacher grade check — optional per-class check by teachers.
  10. Final check — review everything and lock in the grades.

Progress bars show how far each step and the window as a whole have got. From the checklist you can jump straight into the ranking and grading editors — see Ranking, grading and final check. The teacher checks appear for your colleagues as Rank and grade checks.
