Assessment data that helps, not hinders
amPIL exists to give every school the question-level insight it needs to help students improve — without the cost, clutter or spreadsheets.

Why I built amPIL
I spent 17 years as a maths teacher and school leader at a school just south of Manchester. After a career change I now work as a web developer for a high-profile organisation in the education sector — but the classroom is where amPIL started.
We assessed students constantly, yet so much of that data went unused. Over seven years I built a system that combines how students perform with an understanding of prerequisite knowledge — so it can flag who needs support and who is ready to be stretched, and give each student detailed, useful feedback after every assessment.

From lockdown lessons to fair grades
During COVID we added a platform for online lessons and a secure ranking tool that helped leaders administer teacher-assessed grades. That ranking system is still used in schools today through amPIL — helping leaders generate fair grades from a school's known grade distribution.
Our principles
Free for every school
Good data shouldn't depend on budget. Every feature is free — a gift back to the teaching community.
Insight, not clutter
Each person sees exactly what helps them — and nothing that doesn't.
Secure by design
Strict school isolation and role-based access protect every student's data.
A gift back to the teaching community
amPIL is free — it's my gift back to the teaching community. I know how stretched school budgets are, so amPIL will always be free to use. It's kept running by our other products.
